Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Length and Setpieces Revealed: What to Expect on PS5

In an exciting update for fans eagerly awaiting the release of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Insomniac Games has shared some key details about the game’s length, setpieces, and the enhancements made possible by the PlayStation 5 (PS5) hardware.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Length Comparable to the First Game

Despite expanding the playable area of the game to include the Queens and Brooklyn boroughs in New York City, the length of Spider-Man 2 will remain similar to its predecessor. Insomniac’s Senior Creative Director, Bryan Intihar, clarified that the estimated length of the main quest will be around 17 hours, while completing the main quest and side content will take approximately 25.5 hours. For those aiming for a full completionist run, it’s estimated to take about 34.5 hours. Insomniac’s focus remains on delivering an experience that aligns with the game’s vision rather than simply increasing its length.

Intihar emphasized, “We want to do what is right for the vision, the time and attention you need to create that experience, and also take care of our team. It’s not a 200-hour game.”

Enhanced Setpieces Thanks to PS5 Hardware

One of the standout features of Spider-Man 2 will be its larger and more impressive setpieces, particularly in boss battles. These enhancements have been made possible by harnessing the power of the PS5, which boasts near-instantaneous loading times. Insomniac Games worked closely with Mark Cerny, a key figure in the development of the PS5, to leverage the console’s capabilities fully.

“We knew about the SSD. And so that fantasy of players of ‘I want to swing faster and faster and faster’, we knew we could deliver that,” stated Intihar. With the PS5’s advanced hardware, players can seamlessly transition between different game environments, ensuring a more immersive gaming experience.

Graphics Presets and Ray Tracing Support

Insomniac Games has also confirmed the graphics preset modes available for Spider-Man 2. Players will have the option to choose from three presets: 30 frames per second, 60 frames per second, and 40 frames per second (for those with a 120Hz display and VRR support via HDMI 2.1). Notably, all of these modes will include ray tracing support, marking a significant achievement for the development team.

The addition of ray tracing extends to reflections on water surfaces and even the ocean itself, promising stunning visuals and lifelike environments throughout the game.

Spider-Man 2 Release Date and Future Platforms

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is scheduled to launch on October 20, exclusively on the PlayStation 5. While the game’s initial release is for the PS5, there are hints that a PC version may become available in the coming years, expanding the reach of this highly anticipated title.

With these exciting updates, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is poised to deliver an unforgettable gaming experience, combining an engaging narrative with enhanced setpieces and stunning graphics, all made possible by the impressive capabilities of the PlayStation 5 hardware.

As the release date approaches, fans can look forward to swinging through the iconic streets of New York City once again, in what promises to be a truly spectacular adventure. Stay tuned for more web-slinging action on October 20!
