Baldur’s Gate 3 to Get AMD FSR 2 Support Closer to September 6th, Confirms Larian Studios

Baldur’s Gate 3 is about to make its long-awaited 1.0 debut on PC, leaving fans around the world excited for this sequel, nearly two decades after Baldur’s Gate 2 was released in 2001. As the release date approaches, developer Larian Studios has shared some essential technical details with the community.

The most significant piece of information is that AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 2 (FSR 2) won’t be available at the game’s launch. However, Larian is committed to adding support for AMD’s upscaler “closer to September 6th,” which coincides with the game’s release on PlayStation 5.

Larian has explicitly stated that they are targeting 60 frames per second for the PS5 version, and it’s possible that AMD FSR 2 will be utilized on the console to achieve this FPS goal. The developers might be working on optimizing FSR 2 for both PC and PS5.

The inclusion of AMD FSR 2 will be a significant advantage for Steam Deck users. While Baldur’s Gate 3 already runs well on Valve’s portable PC, the official Steam Deck Verified badge is being pursued to ensure a smooth experience. The Steam Deck OS allows users to enable AMD FSR 1.0 in all games, but the superior quality of FSR 2 will greatly benefit Baldur’s Gate 3 players, especially those using non-GeForce RTX GPUs. For those with GeForce RTX 20, 30, or 40 graphics cards, the game supports NVIDIA DLSS for extra performance, with an estimated 93% FPS increase at 4K, as well as DLAA for increased visual fidelity. Baldur’s Gate 3 is also available on GeForce NOW, where both features are supported, providing a 4K@120FPS experience via the cloud.

The game will be available for download on launch day, but unfortunately, preloading won’t be possible due to its massive size of 122GB. The download gates will open at specific times for different regions: 8 AM Pacific Time, 11 AM Eastern Time, 4 PM London Time, 5 PM CET, and midnight Tokyo Time. Valve is expected to handle the server stress to prevent download speed slowdowns from Steam.

On a separate note, Larian has partnered with Twitch to offer Baldur’s Gate 3 drops. Starting an hour after the game’s launch, viewers can unlock the Camp Clothing Set by watching two hours of gameplay on Twitch. This set includes the Chatterbox’s Tabard, Streamhopper Loafers, Channeler’s Trunks, and Periwrinkle Garments and will be available until August 17th.

Overall, fans can look forward to an exciting launch of Baldur’s Gate 3, with potential AMD FSR 2 support coming soon and various enhancements for different gaming platforms.
